Lower East Side

The cultural landscape of the Lower East Side continues to change. While there are still places like the Santo Domingo Bakery, which are older establishments, serving the oh so good cafe con leche, there are also new restaurants, like “Pig and Khao”. I had the opportunity to taste the succulent dishes prepared by the very talented chef Leah Cohen.
There is not a lot of new development real estate wise, and the apartment buildings are for the most part still walk-up, small buildings. On Delancey Street, there is currently a Holiday Inn being finalized. It will be interesting to see how this property affects the current climate and culture of the immediate surroundings.
